SUMMARY: The Sanitation and Safety Lead is responsible for all activities involved in helping to define, maintain and improve the cleanliness and employee and food safe environment of the processing facility, surrounding area and equipment. Leads, motivates and develops sanitation staff and the organization to achieve outstanding sanitation and safety results. Reports to the Quality Assurance Manager. PRIMARY RESPONSABILITIES: Sanitation Directs, coordinates and documents all daily sanitation activities within the processing plant as well as the grounds surrounding the processing plant.Coordinates the completion of all required sanitation or maintenance required by the master sanitation schedule, and/or end of week sanitation activities.Ensures daily sanitation of all processing lines, rooms and areas per protocols.Implements all GMP and HACCP procedures that relate to cleanliness, food safety and pest control with the facility. Monitors and audits sanitation processesResponsible for filling out daily sanitation logs, performance reports and shift paperwork.Responsible for managing and maintaining a supply of cleaning chemicals necessary for the operation of the cleaning program and in compliance with OSHA and FDA regulationsManages operations to maintain the highest rating possible on all audits and inspections. Interacts with third party auditors to facilitate Food Safety audits within the plant.Promotes a safe work environment through knowledge of the sanitation program and commitment to a safe work place for all. Ensure that staff are informed of corporate safety requirements and that safety is a priority in day to day functions.Actively supports process control and quality improvement effortsIdentifies, develops and implements new methods, procedures, and systems to improve quality and food safety performance, determine and implement corrective actions.Develops and maintains training and development programs that support key performance goals for the company, as well as provide a satisfying and rewarding work environment for employees.Dotted line supervision of a sanitation team to ensure all procedures are followed. Lead, motivate and develop sanitation personnel to achieve outstanding manufacturing and sanitation results. Effectively conduct team meetings. Plan, assign and direct the work. In coordination with manufacturing leadership, human resources and corporate policy, recommend personnel actions (performance reviews, discipline, discharge, etc.). develop back up and continuity for key positions.Train sanitation personnel in best practices and safety to understand and implement SDS information, and the proper use of personal protective equipment.Must be able to work overtime, weekends, and fulfill all job requirements in the event of an absence Employee Health and Safety Define plans, objectives and best practices to ensure a safe and compliant work environment in accordance with industry standards and government safety regulationsCommunicate goals, document, monitor and report on progress against plan objectivesEstablish and execute training programs for facility staff relevant to role and responsibilityInvestigate accidents, identify root cause, recommend, align and execute preventative solutions. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: College Degree in the Sciences preferred (ideally microbiology or sanitation) plus a minimum of 4 years related work experience required including supervision.Experience and knowledge in food sanitation and safety operations, procedures, chemicals and program standards, preferably in a general food or manufacturing industry.A working knowledge of food technology, food science, microbiology or chemistry required.An understanding of pathogens and other food contaminants is required as well as an understanding of modes of control of various sanitation chemicals and physical cleaning.Leadership competencies that lead and inspire others drives for exceptional results.Strong quantitative skills, interpersonal skills and the ability to think critically.Basic computer skills required.Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Bi-lingual English/Spanish is preferred.Self-directed with the ability to work independently as well as with groups.Ability to effectively plan, organize and prioritize work.Read and understand chemical labels.Read and understand HACCP along with FDA and OSHA requirements.Must have basic understanding of inventory methods.Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, including electronically.Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.Ability to maintain and promote a safe work environment. Salary is negotiable depending on experience.
