Job Description
Are you looking to make a difference in your career? Were working on smarter grids, cleaner energy and tools to help people manage energy more efficiently.

About Strategic Planning & Power Supply

Strategic Planning & Power Supply is responsible for the core strategic planning for the company. We develop long-term resource plans to ensure California meets its clean energy future in a reliable and affordable way. We also manage SCEs energy resources through procurement of clean energy to satisfy SCEs customer demand. Energy Procurement and Management (EPM) is a department within Strategic Planning & Power Supply and ensures that customers have enough electricity to meet its needs, through the output of SCE-owned generation plants and the purchase of electricity from independent generators or wholesale markets.

The job

As a Senior Specialist, you will report to the Senior Manager of Forecasting in the EPM department and will be responsible for providing net and true load forecasts in the hour-ahead through year ahead timeframe for parts of SCE service territory. The forecasts are used for wholesale procurement of electricity for SCE customers, for understanding of the state of the distribution grid, and dispatch of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) as needed. You will also be responsible for providing energy and ancillary services price forecasts. The Forecasting Team works closely with the portfolio planning, trading, operations, business resiliency, and resource optimization groups to ensure that they have the information they need for their transactions and functions. Another major responsibility of the Forecasting group is DER strategy and integration. You will work closely with that function to forecast the energy output for specific DERs including Demand Response, Energy Storage, Distributed Generation, and Electric Vehicle resources at different levels and aggregations throughout SCEs territory.

  • Provide operational coverage for forecasting short-term net and true load in the hour-ahead through one year ahead timeframe for SCE service territory;

  • Provide operational coverage for forecasting short-term Locational Marginal Prices and Ancillary Service (e.g. Regulation Up, Regulation Down, Spinning Reserve, and Non-Spinning Reserve) prices in the day-ahead through one year ahead timeframe;
  • Work with senior staff to prepare seasonal load and price forecasts and provide weekly updates as needed;
  • Support and maintain existing forecast models and develop new models to improve forecast performance using SAS and other statistical software;

  • Provide system development and maintenance support for SCEs forecasting models and other analytical tools;
  • Partner and collaborate with the Trading, Day-ahead & Real-Time Operations, and Resource Optimization groups within EPM to manage short-term procurement tasks, including, but not limited to gas scheduling, position management, and resource bidding;
  • Partner and collaborate with the Customer Services organization to develop generation forecasts for behind-the-meter DERs;
  • Partner and collaborate with the Transmission and Distribution organization to outline the specifications to the Grid Management System to forecast short-term true load forecasts, net load forecasts, and DER generation forecasts at the circuit level or higher-level aggregations;
  • Support EPMs Systems and Analytics group as needed;
  • Maintain a safety conscious work environment by following Edison safety protocols and safe work practices; and
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
