General Summary & Essential Responsibilities GENERAL SUMMARY: This is skilled firefighting work involving the protection of life and property through firefighting and rescue operations and trained emergency medical work utilizing advanced medical techniques under the policies, procedures and treatment protocols established by the Medical Director. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Administers advanced emergency medical procedures following approved protocols.
  • Supervises and assists in any and all aspects of patient care including on-scene transport and delivery to the emergency room.
  • Works as part of a medical team with the hospital emergency room during observance of patient condition and performing emergency treatment.
  • Firefighting duties may include but are not limited to those of operating and making both efficient and effective use of all apparatus and equipment, assisting in firefighting, rescue, and all other emergencies as well as fire prevention activities, inspection, training and other related duties as directed.
  • Routine station duties and care and maintenance of department property and equipment including minor mechanical repair and maintenance of all equipment.
  • Min. Education, Licenses and Certifications Minimum Education and Experience :
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent is required. Possession of an Associates Degree in Fire Science Technology or Emergency Medical Services Technology or equivalent is preferred.
  • Licenses and/or Certificates:
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Florida Drivers license (Class E minimum)
  • DOH approved certification as a Paramedic, State of Florida
  • Certification as a Firefighter, State of Florida
  • Valid certification and maintenance as an A.C.L.S. provider
  • E.V.O.C. certification must be obtained within 90 days of employment
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of advanced emergency medical practices, procedures, techniques and protocols.
  • Knowledge of all standards as set forth by the State of Florida in Florida Statutes, Chapter 401 and Florida Administrative Code 64J-1, relative to function.
  • Knowledge of all detailed Firefighter duty standards as set forth by N.F.P.A. 1001.
  • Ability to work for sustained periods under pressure and constantly changing situations.
  • Supplemental Information Working Conditions: Very frequent exposure to changes in temperature and humidity. Risk/Safety Conditions: Frequently around moving equipment, exposure to dust, gases and fumes, slippery or irregular surfaces, and moving objects.Occasional exposure to excessive noise levels. Physical Activities: Frequent heavy lifting of over 50 pounds.Constant standing.Very frequent speaking and hearing,and detailed inspection/reading/editing.Frequent walking, sitting and bending/stooping.Occasional writing, reaching over head, kneeling and crawling.Will frequently monitor/operate fire apparatus such as engine, ladder, brush and staff vehicle.
